Each year, the MMF supports Orange Shirt Day activities across all seven MMF Regions through Honouring Our Red River Métis Survivors and Lost Children.
The Sixties Scoop, Residential, and Day Schools Department provides funding and coordination support to MMF Regions and Locals to organize community-based commemorations. Activities may include Survivor presentations, ceremonies, educational programming, cultural activities, remembrance walks, community gatherings, and the distribution of orange shirts recognizing Red River Métis Survivors.
These events bring together Survivors, families, Elders, youth, Citizens, community members, and partners to honour Survivors and remember the children who never returned home. They also create opportunities to learn about the history and continuing impacts of the Sixties Scoop, Residential Schools, and Day Schools.
Through this work, the MMF supports locally led approaches to truth, remembrance, healing, education, and reconciliation while ensuring that Red River Métis Survivors and experiences remain visible and honoured.
