The Minister's mandate directs the Department to work with Red River Métis Day School Survivors to advance justice initiatives, develop Red River Métis-led programs, ensure programming remains Survivor-informed, and advocate for recognition of the distinct Red River Métis Day School experience in Canada.
This work includes reviewing available Survivor files and historical records, identifying gaps in the documentary record, and examining the legal, policy, and research options needed to advance recognition and justice for Red River Métis Day School Survivors.
Further research, Survivor engagement, and legal analysis will help inform future priorities related to recognition, healing, redress, programs, and supports. Survivor voices and lived experiences will continue to guide this work.
