Manitoba Métis Federation Sixties Scoop Department

The Sixties Scoop Department was established in July 2021.

The mandate of the Department is to implement the Five Pillars of Reconciliation contained in the What We Heard- Report of the Métis Nation's Engagement with Métis Sixties Scoop Survivors.

The Department is guided by the Minister for Sixties Scoop, who ensures all Métis Sixties Scoop Survivors are acknowledged, treated with respect, and provided an opportunity to heal from Canada's colonial legacy of the Sixties Scoop.

Message from Denise Thomas, Minister of Sixties Scoop

As Minister for Sixties Scoop, my greatest honour is to serve as your representative on the Manitoba Métis Federation Cabinet. With the establishment of the Sixties Scoop Department, your government is now able to offer programs and services designed to meet your unique healing needs.

As we continue to fight for justice, we must never forget who we are as a people and work collectively to address the harms of the past on the path towards reconciliation.

It is by our actions today that future generations of our people will see and know how resilient and loving our people are as we welcome home those that have been lost. May we come together as a nation and welcome those that have been taken away with open hearts and minds- never to be taken away again.
